Dervock Hall

Sep 17, 2015

After the Great War of 1914-1918, Dervock established a hall in the middle of the village, a recreational place for the ex service community, this became the then British Legion Hall, the FIRST Hall perhaps, of its type and purpose to be built in Ulster.

During WWII Dervock again exceeded herself by producing a unique band of heroes, many paid the supreme sacrifice and thankfully many survived, among the survivors was Samuel Johnston, a Dervock man born and bred.  During the bitter fighting of WWII this brave Dervock soldier was decorated with the Military Medal not once but TWICE, few villages can boast of that one!  These are but a few of the historic facts and people our wee village can lay claim to, there are more, many more and over the coming months and hopefully years we will be examining in more detail our people and our history.
